The Motel Possible is really moving along now that Spring has decided to stick around. We’ve been grooming the courtyard, mowing and taking back more of the grounds, painting and furnishing the first guest rooms, and preparing for the biggest phase of the project to date: exterior paint and trim.
It would not be possible for us to do any of it without the continued love, help, and support of our friends and family. We are blessed with the best.

The courtyard project continues. This has been our biggest under taking so far.
I can’t wait until it’s all prettied up.
Shane, prepping for exterior paint.
He seems happy to do it, and that makes us happy, too.
Abbie and Lexi, breaking for selfies and smooches.
A good friend donated some high quality interior paint. We will put it to good use as we color and customize the rooms.
Jaxson on his all terrain tricycle.
One of the perks of working with family is getting to hang out with your favorite people.
Just a little more scraping, then we’ll call it a day. Uh-huh. Sure.
“More weeds,” sighed Patty. “This is your life now,” replied Dave. “This is the life you chose.” Touché, Mr. Hill. Touché.
Shane and his caulk. So many jokes, all entirely inappropriate, which makes them even funnier.
Part of me feels bad about painting over the rivers, waterfalls, rainbows, pheasant, deer, mountain ranges, and hikers. It’s pretty dreamy stuff.
Before: wildlife scene under fluorescent light
No more fluorescent lighting. Ever!
Dave is a good cutter inner.
Remember when they were doing this work in jackets and hats?
Lexi also helped me with some push mowing. Got it done in less than two days this time.
Dominic busted butt on the lava rock removal.
Remind me to calculate the number of man hours we have into this project, and to compile more before (& durings) & afters.
Almost ready for mulch.
Project Courtyard: Lava Rock Removal. Check.
Our homesteading friends are going to use the lava rock in their greenhouse. We’ll keep a little for ideas we have for future projects.
Dom, after a long, productive day. He’ll be back.
Zonked from all the fresh air and sunshine.
Coming soon… The Atwood Inn
I hope guests will find the property as charming as I do.
Dave on one of our daily walkabouts/strategizing sessions.
Gazing skyward from the courtyard. It’s also quite stunning at night.
Project Taking Back Of The Yard is progressing nicely. As Dave digs up more autumn olive, I follow behind with the mower. Slowly but surely, the beautiful lawn reveals itself.
Like Christmas in June. Hooray!
This is going to make life a whole lot easier.
June 10. Sighted our first Monarch butterfly here.
We love it here.
